Chief Officers People Directorate - Appointment of Director of Public Health

At its meeting on 27 September 2019, an Appointments Etc Panel agreed the recruitment process for senior management roles as part of the Organisational Re-Design.

 

The post of Director of Public Health was advertised in The MJ and Guardian on line and NHS Jobs from 5 December 2019 until 6 January 2020.  A total of 3 applications were received.

 

In accordance with the process agreed by Panel in September and with the Faculty of Public Health recruitment guidelines, all applications were reviewed and 1 candidate was long listed for interview by Paul Robinson, John Smith, Dr Sue Ibbotson (Public Health England) and Sarah Muckle (Faculty of Public Health Assessor) and Simon Geraghty.  The one candidate was Dr Kath Cobain, the current interim Director for Public Health.

 

In accordance with the Faculty of Public Health recruitment guidelines, a further interview was held.  This was conducted by the Advisory Appointment Committee (AAC) and consisted of Paul Robinson, Cllr John Smith, Dr Sue Ibbotson, Sarah Muckle and Simon Trickett (CCG Accountable Lead)

 

Following consideration of the candidate’s application, a development assessment report and conducting an interview the Panel

 

RESOLVED that:

 

a)    That the post of Director of Public Health should be offered to Dr Kathryn Cobain; and

 

b)   authorised the Chief Executive, in consultation with the Cabinet Member with Responsibility, to settle the detailed terms of the contract for the successful applicant.
